Birmingham, AL Police Chief takes on brutality

The new Police Chief in Birmingham, AL, Chief A.C. Roper, is punishing five veteran officers (four of them narcotics or vice officers) who beat an unconscious man after he was thrown from a vehicle that crashed while being pursued. The beating was videotaped by a camera mounted in police cruiser, until turned off after 12 seconds by one of the officers. The tape had been known to some police managers for months.

I commend the police chief for upholding the discipline of his department. The comments on the story posted on the Birmingham News website are shocking. Many members of the public endorse the beating.
